PS 194 Beacon DYCD Activity Specialist

Partnership with Children works with public schools in New York City’s highest-need communities to provide critical social and emotional services for the hardest-to-reach youth and to systematically support schools that are safe, successful, and conducive to learning.

PWC is seeking an Activity Specialist who has experience working with youth ages K-12 in an engaging and creative learning environment providing specialized instruction in the arts. The Activity Specialist must have the ability to lead groups of 10 or more while providing age-appropriate activities in character development, project-based learning, STEM, fitness, and academic enrichment. The Activity Specialist must provide a safe, well supervised environment while modeling behaviors that are in line with the core values of PWC. The activity specialist will facilitate student led discussions on decision making, communication, critical thinking, conflict resolution while providing a safe and nurturing environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and develop age and skill-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and special projects that fuse literacy, social action, and academic competencies to be reviewed by supervisors before execution.
  • Facilitate project-based lessons on DYCD’s five core curriculum.
  • Teach specialized activities, including activities that build their level of skill and confidence.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with scholars, school personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  • Ability to communicate the progress of students and present a culminating performance as evidence of instruction and student work.
  • Act as a positive role model for all program participants
  • Create and maintain a strength-based atmosphere that is inclusive, welcoming and embraces the diversity of all participants.
  • Adhere to all Department of Health, PWC and funder standard, expectations, and regulations.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree and practical experience in the content area is preferred (college students currently pursuing degree-level work are encouraged to apply).

  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders in community.
  • Demonstrates understanding of high-need communities and public schools as well as social service, education, and behavioral health issues that impact students and their families.
  • Excellent time management skills, coupled with a strong sense of urgency to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule: available days and evenings.
  • Knowledge of restorative justice and its practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passion and experience with Literacy and Social Action
  • Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people
  • Ability to demonstrate classroom management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively on projects with staff and students.
Salary and Working Hours:
  • $20/hour
  • Weekly hours: Monday-Friday (2:00 PM - 6:30 PM)
