Partnership with Children provides critical counseling, school-wide services, and family and community outreach in high-poverty, New York City public schools so students can reach their full potential. The ideal Success Mentor is a self-starter, who is committed to empowering students and families. The Success Mentor will be based in an NYC Public School and report to the Community School Director.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with school principal and Community School Director to identify students who are chronically absent
• Mentor a caseload of chronically absent students by serving as a 'coach' and 'sounding board' for the students and their families
• Conduct family outreach via phone, text, email or Class Dojo on a regular basis
• Develop strong rapport with students to empower them to achieve attendance and academic goals, and engage families in the process
• Collaborate with school support staff, including parent coordinator, attendance teachers, and outreach workers, to develop strategies to increase student attendance
• Participate on the school attendance team and manage data collection and assessment
• Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating workshops and events for students and families
• Participate in home visits as needed
• Keep thorough notes of outreach in organization’s cloud-based system
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Commitment to demonstrating PWC’s organizational values of Collaboration, Continuous Learning, Going to Solution, Equity & Inclusion, and Passion
• HS graduate or GED recipient, required
• Passion for and experience working in high-needs communities
• Experience working in NYC public schools, or with community-based organizations, preferred
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment, flexible, organized and can-do attitude
• Experience with community outreach and home visits
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Docs and Dropbox
Schedule:
• Full-time (7:30 am – 3:30 pm OR 8am - 4pm, Mon - Fri) *depending on school needs
• This is a SY 24/25 position and will end on 6/26/2025
• This is a school-based, in-person position
Salary:
$20 per hour
