Partnership with Children provides critical counseling, school-wide services, and family and community outreach in high-poverty, New York City public schools so students can reach their full potential. Activity specialists are responsible for designing and facilitating project-based learning within a specialization, such as culinary arts or dance. They use their creativity and experience to engage students, families, and faculty and coordinate events in their specialty areas, such as showcases and performances. The encouragement and support activity specialists provide leave a lasting impact on students and help give them the confidence to pursue their own passions. Activity specialists are typically college students or graduates who have experience working with youth in their specializations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with Site Director and Assistant Director/On-site Supervisor to provide activities for children, youth, adults and seniors.
Assist with after school activities; prepare, develop and implement hands-on multi-sensory lessons and activities to children which are provided in the context of DYCD’s Five Core Areas: Academic enhancement; Life Skills; Career Awareness/School Transition; Civic Engagement/Community Building; Recreation/Health and Fitness; and Culture/Art.
Coordinate planning and preparation of activities and materials for daily schedule.
Provide effective supervision and activities to groups of participants during classroom activities, snack time, recreation, field trips, and evening and weekend hours as assigned. (# of group size dependent on age group, but can range from 10-20)
Model, enforce, teach and develop age appropriate social, physical and emotional behaviors.
Assist children with homework assignments daily.
Responsible for maintaining accurate attendance daily records.
Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents and community.
Oversee and monitor authorized parental/guardian pick up of children.
Outreach to parents and community to promote the program, activities and upcoming events.
Multi-site flexibility (may be asked to work at an alternative site during summer programming).
Attend and comply with training requirements, actively participate in designated meetings, ongoing professional development, supervision and special events.
Timely submit all program and certification related documents.
Perform set up and clean up duties every day in alignment with Department of Health regulations and PwC. policies.
Abide by all safety protocols as outlined by the Department of Health/OCFS, DYCD and PwC
Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements

Associates or Bachelor’s degree and practical experience in the content area is preferred (college students currently pursuing degree-level work are encouraged to apply).
Must enjoy working with children, 1+ years’ experience working with children, preferred, working with at-risk-youth a plus and be able to pass a background check.
Background in sports, music, drama, dance, photography, crafts, sewing, or the arts is a plus.
Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based perspective.
Must be culturally competent - ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures and age ranges. Knowledge of restorative justice and its practices.
Must pass reference checks and background checks as designated by DOH, DOE, DYCD and PwC.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving and mathematical skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently.
Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed.
Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes with various stallholders.

Ability to work a flexible schedule: available days and evenings.
Salary and Working Hours:
$20/hour
The Beacon program is offered every weekday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, 10:00am-9:00pm on weekends, and extended hours during the summer and school holidays.
Part Time Hours - Weekday/Afternoon/Evening and Saturday Shifts incumbents expected to work between 15 and 22.5 hours per week depending on program needs.
This position is fully in-person and does not offer any remote work.
